The best, hands down. Traveled to Dallas for pleasure and were in search of the best BBQ. Discovered this place as it was listed as #1 in the Dallas area for BBQ (by D Magazine). We got to the restaurant (on Mansfield) about 30 minutes before close and they already had indoor seating closed off, we were directed to go to the drive-thru. Fine by us, we were hungry and wanted our BBQ! We ordered the beef brisket, ribs, mac n'cheese, potato salad, and peach cobbler. Perfection. Plenty of meat on the bones (pecan smoked), tender and moist brisket, quality sides, and the peach cobbler was heavenly. I wish I could be a regular, but living nearly 1,000 miles away prevents that! I highly recommend you dine at this very fine establishment and I plan to return when I'm in the area again.

We were told that this place has some really good BBQ, and I KNOW and LOVE bbq, so I decided to give this a try. My boyfriend had the sausage and ribs and I had the three meat dinner, with sausage, sliced beef and ribs. Both combos came with Texas toast and a drink, along with 2 sides. We also got cole slaw, corn on the cob and potato salad. Now like I said, I love BBQ and I know some awesome BBQ and some not-so-awesome BBQ. This is one place that is right in the middle. The ribs were not falling "off the bone", the sliced beef was pretty tough, and the sausage was good, but definitely not the best I've ever had. Yet, all the meat had the nice smoky flavor and the sauce, well you might have to have an acquired taste for it. It was good, but off at the same time. Lol. This place was reasonably priced, it's not a bad place at all! Would I go back? Maybe. Would I drive out of my way to get some? No. If I do want BBQ, I will just get my dad to make some (now that is some GREAT bbq) or go to SpringCreek for a good fix!

On my first trip to Texas from NYC, I was excited to try some BBQ. I didn't want to fall into a tourist trap type of place and found Off The bone after asking some locals. The staff was super friendly and recommended a few plates when I told them I was in from out of town. They gave me a rib sample to try while I waited for my order which was delish! I ended up going with a combo of brisket, cole slaw and honey beans. It was the most delicious meal of my life! Try it! I will be visiting every time I get back to Dallas.
(5)Matthew G.
sides were good and service is a tad slow brisket better than the ribs - which were dry but you get a lot of food for the money most people in the store were eating chopped sandwiches
(3)Sandy D.
Stopped here during a guided BBQ Tour of Fort Worth. The ribs, coleslaw, and potato salad was the best here out of all of the restaurants our tour took us to. This place is not posh in anyway with its very simple decor but ambiance isn't the reason why its known by DFW bbq lovers. If you see past the aesthetics then your in store for some tasty food. Counter style ordering and payment and then you seat yourself. When they call out your number you raise your hand and they bring your order to you. The pecan wood they use yo smoke the meat makes for some delicious ribs.

I looked at the reviews here on Yelp, and boy was this place a serious disappointment. I see 4 stars and I think I'm going to BBQ heaven ... wrong! I got the BBQ Chicken, yuck! Wasn't even completely cooked... how wrong is that? Maybe I should have tried the ribs... but I doubt they would have been all that good considering the BBQ sauce they serve is just barely OK... on the verge of crappy to me. Janet got the pulled pork sandwich... another bland disappointment. Pass this place by... 4 stars is a total joke written by folks whose tongues must be made of stone or something similar... maybe leather... LOL There are a lot better places to find BBQ than this one. Two thumbs down.
(1)Sable T.
The chop beef sandwich is awesome! The missing star is due to the drive though line & no room to pull up even if there is just 2 cars ahead of you.
(4)Neidra H.
The food is excellent however Do not be in a hurry coming into this place. Extremely slow. At 7pm the inside close the drive thru is wrapped around the building. Food is good but not worth the 30 minute wait in drive thru.
(2)Glenda B.
First visit in six years. Nothing has changed. Brisket was more fat than meat, ribs were dry and over cooked. Potato salad was decent. I will not be returning. I paid nearly $15.00 for a plate of mediocrity.
(2)Andy R.
Nice people but really bad, uninspired food. Maybe we are spoiled in central Texas but even Rudy's beats this place. Went on a recommendation from article in Dallas observer and the author should never write about barbq again.

I love BBQ - I don't care what state it's from: NC, TX, TN, KS...doesn't matter. I love smoked meat and all the sauces in the world (on the side, of course). Off-The-Bone definitely met all my expectations. It's in an old dairy queen site completely not near anything. No matter, we drive the half hour to this place without hesitation. The ribs really is where it's at. While I found the sausage to be good but not great and the brisket was also quite good but not the best, the chicken is where it's at if you don't want ribs. Seriously, don't skip the chicken! It never gets respect at these places, but OTB does it RIGHT! Ribs and chicken, check. I don't like slaw, so I get macaroni and cheese. Yes, it's the GFS yellow gooey cheese you get at cheap buffets. I don't care what you people think of me, but I'm obsessed with that macaroni and cheese. LOL! Love the stuff. So double order on that, thank you :) The 'Texas toast' is really just sliced white bread, buttered, and toasted. Nothing special, but still a requirement for Texas BBQ. I LOVE the pickles, onions, and jalapenos on the side. I also really love their sauce. It's probably my second favorite BBQ sauce I've ever had (second to my husband's). It's tangy and a bit spicy without being overly sticky. And served on the side, of course.

BBQ Crawl 5th and Final Stop Saved the best for last. About 20 minutes after we had ordered they announced they were out of ribs, forcing us to just order almost everything else on the menu - Brisket - Much like North Main's, it was quite good. The most distinct aspect of Off the Bone's BBQ is the very heavy smoke flavor in their meats. It is good for a change of pace, though some might not like how overpowering it can be. Some oak is definitely in the mix here. Has a nice smoke ring and is tender, followed by the strong, smoky flavor only an oak-fired smoke can bring. Sausage - They had two flavors, regular and hot. Both were exquisite. It is clear they make their own sausage and I would compare it to something like Holmes if you were going to try to find a similar blend at the store. Great flavor, best of the day. The casing was red and the color of the sausage itself was lighter, speckled colors of red, pink, and light brown. Not the run-of-the-mill, red-throughout-sausage that we have had most of the day. Pork Loin - One of the substitutes for the ribs. Large slices exemplified by the strong smoky flavor. One problem with smoked pork loin is that it dries out easily and this was not the case here. Bologna - (Ya you read that right, they have smoked Bologna. Our second substitute for the ribs) They gave us extra because of the long wait. Due to the texture of Bologna, this meat featured the strongest smoky taste over the other meats. Ham - Generally I stay away from smoked ham at most places since not much you can do with ham, since the meat is cured to become ham, you're essentially just recooking it. The strong smokiness in OTB's meats gave their ham a unique flavor. Sauce - this was actually my favorite. I could drink this stuff. Tangy like all of the others, then followed up by a nice bite of spice. Medium tint of brown in color. A unique and very flavorful sauce. Conclusion - The best place we went to out of the total five and didn't even get to try the ribs. Want to go back and order a huge slab of ribs, but you must get your order in early. Other places visited in the crawl: Meshack's Back Country BBQ Baker's Ribs North Main BBQ

From the outside it looks like it turned a run down gas station but inside is actually not that bad. Order at the register and they also have a drive-thru ("ghetto" system might I add) Ordered ribs and brisket with coleslaw and Mac & cheese. Ribs 100% needed sauce. Without the sauce I think I would not eat it. It's not that it's dry, but its dry.. You'll understand if you try it. With the sauce, the ribs are pretty good! Brisket was good and had that smokey flavor we know and love. I'd get it again. Mac & cheese was not gross.. Not sure what they use for it but I didn't enjoy it. Coleslaw tastes store bought to me, not a fan. Not a bad joint and the folks there are somewhat nice. It's cheap and okay BBQ. I'd only be back if it was on the way.
(3)Jerome K.
Pretty good BBQ joint! Looking for fancy, stay clear. Definitely tasty, but no beer :-(
(4)Chris C.
Its all about the ribs! Brisket was good, lots of smoke flavor but not as moist as it could have been. But the ribs, WOW, its definitely all about the ribs. They are fairly small in size but very meaty, fall of the bone tender, good smoke flavor and cooked to perfection. Had the potato salad and the fried okra. The potato salad was fairly pedestrian. I asked for the fried okra to be extra crispy and it was served exactly as I requested. Best fried okra I've had in a long, long time. I'll be back for a rib basket with the okra, thank you very much.

As a North Carolina transplant, it's against my nature to call anything but a hickory smoked pork butt "BBQ." Off the Bone definitely impressed this Tarheel. Décor was low-key...let the food be the star. The brisket and sides were pretty good, but what blew me away were the ribs. Heaven on a bone. It's both good and a tragedy that it's so far away from me.
(4)Chris C.
Get the ribs. They have a thin smokey crust with a salty/smoke flavor that is amazing. Don't need sauce, they are packed with flavor. The pink smoke ring surrounds a juicy hunk of meat. The brisket is soft, hot and tender too, but I drove back to get a second rack of ribs within 3 hours of trying the sampler. I think my fingers still smell like hickory woodchips... Get the ribs.
(5)Jessica H.
Hands down, the best BBQ I have ever had! Seriously, the meat just melts in your mouth - definitely worth the drive dr

When my friends and I get together we like to eat massive amounts of food every 2-3 hours. You know, to keep our metabolisms going..or something. Whenever we're all back in town we hit up Off the Bone for insanely good ribs and giant baked potatos stuffed with various bbq'd meat, butter and cheese. Between the three of us we typically share a rack of ribs and a baked potato. The ribs are everyone's favorite. They're succulent, meaty and perfectly smokey. The baked potatoes are just delicious overkill. The sides are OK here but the meat is really the main show. I'm not a big fan of the sliced beef but the ribs and smoked turkey are great. Try the peach cobbler for a sweet treat at the end of your savory feast! I'd been searching for good ribs since my favorite place closed a few years ago and Off the Bone has continuously impressed! The name says it all!

The building has all the tell-tale signs of an old Dairy Queen with unassuming yellow and blue paint. Pulling behind the building you find the first evidence of BBQ in the making. A big pile of wood and a smoker at full tilt. Our order: No. 21- Ribs and Sliced Beef with 1/2 lb. Smoked Sausage. Our 2 sides were potato salad and beans. As we sat there in anticipation I could hear the sound of our "Q" getting chopped, ahh that sweet, sweet sound. All orders come with pickle slices, onions, jalapeño slices and toasted and buttered bread. Brisket (flat): Great smoke ring, good amount of glorious fat and a very black and ample bark. Ribs (St. Louis style spare ribs): Falling off the bone. Not a big bark but perfect texture and smokey flavor. Sausage (Pork): Nice snap with a real good flavor. Light smoke ring with a good texture. Potato Salad: Smooth and rather sweet. Had yellow/red peppers, pickles and egg. Very good. Baked Beans: Sweet as well and good. All in all a great experience and worth the trip. The ribs and brisket are the way to go.

A testament of how highly this place came recommended was that I drove an hour from Dallas in rush hour traffic to make it here before they closed at the unreasonable hour of 8 pm. Anyway, it was worth it. This is a no frills place and that's really the only way a legitimate bbq place should look like. You order from the counter--or go through their drive through--and wait for your number to be called. I got the ribs and half chicken plate with the mac and cheese. Man oh man my stomach is grumbling right now thinking back to how delicious and meaty those baby back ribs were. Very filling, smokey, tender yet meaty. The chicken was equally well bbqed. I think my friends and i went through almost an entire bottle of their bbq sauce. At the end, make sure to get a slice of their buttermilk pie, because that is seriously the perfect cap to this fantastic meal. Although I'm not rabid enough for their ribs to drive an hour just to come here again, I would definitely make excuses to come to Ft. Worth so I can stop here on the way back to Dallas.

HORRIBLE!!!! It made me give one star it deserves ZERO stars!!! It was not good the potaoe salad was way too sweet, they give you one small thing of bbq sauce and charge .60 for another and the Mac n' cheese was nasty..... Stay away there are better bbq joints in DFW! Not worth the price!!!!! The bbq was nasty and salty too!!!!

My wife and I were looking for some classic, non-tourist pit BBQ in FW and we weren't disappointed. Its off the beaten path and it has that used-to-be-a-gas station kind of esthetic (a little tired but clean) a drive through and a counter with indoor seating. Seating is first come-first served and you order at the counter. The menu is pretty big for a place there size, but it's still focused on the BBQ. Meals come as Meat/side dinners, or any meat by the pound. We got a 1/2lb ribs (3 ribs), 1/2lb cut beef (brisket) and 1/2lb chopped beef with green beans and Mac and cheese. The staff is really helpful and smiley even with a Saturday night dinner rush. Everyone in the place, especially the other customers, seems really excited to be there, like kids drooling over presents on Christmas morning. Regulars flooded us with unsolicited recommendations for our "next time back" while we waited for our orders. It is that kind of place. The meals come on styrofoam plates with plastic ware and two slices of Texas toast per person, as they should. They have one sauce that hits right between sweet and savory. It's clearly meant to be a crowd pleaser so If you're a sauce snob you'll be disappointed. However If you're a meat over sauce person, you won't go home sad. The brisket was tender and had a great crust, the chopped beef was incredibly flavorful (a bit overly smokey), and the rib meat fell off the bone. The only knock, and the reason for minus 1star, was the sides: Canned green beans and lack-luster Mac-n-cheese. We were told we should have gotten the potato salad but for all the effort they put into the meat, some fresh sides would really polish off the meal. I know sad sides are pretty much accepted with classic BBQ places like this, but it's still not right. Despite the sides, we are coming back: Smoked sausages and chicken are calling our name. Maybe we'll spring for the potato salad.
(4)Rodonna R.
Food was great the only thing was I ordered potato salad not mashed potato salad. Ribs where tender and fell off the bone.
(4)Zaira P.
I like their link and chopped beef sandwiches. But the sides are too small and not to mention the cashiers. They seem to always have an attitude. Overall the food is good just keep in mind that they aren't so friendly.
(4)Linda N.
This is one of my favorite BBQ place around work. Meat falls off the bone and the food is always great. I am never disappointed and love their potato salad. The drive through sometimes can be long, but the food is good so I definitely don't mind. When we cater for work, I have never heard anyone complain about the food. Yum. We need more work lunches :)
(4)Chad D.
stopped in for lunch yesterday while working in the area. I had the rib basket special. it included 3 ribs, toast, a drink and a side for $7.99. I'm more of a spare ribs guy as opposed to baby back. the ones they serve on their rib basket special are baby back. for me, baby back ribs don't have enough meat on them so you need more than 3 to get full. however, they were nicely flavored and smokey. I put their bbq sauce on the ribs and it was delicious. I had potato salad as my side. the potato salad wasn't great. it was a little to mushy for me.

I've been ruined by 2 or 3 of the really high end BBQ places within and surrounding the DFW area, but it ain't keepin' me from trying new (to me, anyway) places, and Off the Bone had some stuff that was really good in it's own league. Went in the other day, first visit even though I drive by the place occasionally and have known about it for over a year or so. I just couldn't remember it when it was convenient. But, I knew I was going to be over by them, so I just planned my lunch around it. First time in, that usually means to overdo it. I got a three meat plate so I could try out the ribs, brisket, and sausage. Decided on pinto beans and mac n cheese as sides. Plate comes out and whoa...three good sized ribs, 4-5 medium length slices of brisket and probably over half a link of sliced sausage. Good portions on the sides, and toast, and the plate looked like it was about to cave in. Huge amount of food here. Bottle of sauce on the table. Tried the ribs first, they were tender, came off the bone easily, not dry, but not real moist, great taste, really good. Had a pretty unique taste to them, must be using a rub maybe. The brisket...looked obviously lean, (sigh) and while it had a good smoke flavor to it, I just prefer moist and fatty stuff nowadays. The brisket had a little fat on it here and there, most looked rendered fine, and while I wouldn't say it was dry, it wasn't what I would call very moist. However, I'm more than willing to say a lot of people like lean, and a lot of places make it that way, and so be it. I don't count off for that. It still tasted pretty good. The sausage was pretty good right from the start, but it tastes like it has a pretty good pepper seasoning, and it started to wear on me some. Once again, that's a preference, it was cooked well and had a good, obvious smokiness to it, really good. I usually don't care about the sides, or figure them into ratings, but the pinto beans and mac n cheese were pretty good. The beans had a little sweetness to them, which I don't really go for, but were still good (just salt them things up a little), and the mac n cheese, while it looked like nothing special, was really good. It was kinda plain, but was good, I dunno how else to explain it. I ate most of my sides on this visit, and that usually doesn't happen. I was beat, I left just a little sausage and brisket, but inhaled all the ribs. I even ate most of the toast for gawds sake. I did use a little of the sauce on the last few pieces of brisket and sausage. It's a sweet sauce, it was good. Place serves up some good stuff overall. I think it's one of the better places around town. Not high end, but basic down to earth good BBQ. I won't hesitate to come back, but I'll probably stick to mostly ribs and sides. The Dr Pepper outta the soda fountain was right on target, it tasted great, and made lunch even better. The people running the joint are friendly and service was good. My lunch with drink was just under $21 and two people could have easily split it. For a three meat plate it seemed priced just fine. One last observation, don't be put off by the reviewers who talk like this place is in a bad neighborhood, or if you're not a *ahem* certain ethnic class you should avoid it or go through the drive through. This wasn't the case on my visit. Lot's of mingling, lots of smiling, lots of all sorts of people coming in for good BBQ. While this area is old, the last few years I've been driving through it occasionally, along Riverside/Mansfield to 820 has been looking better. I see more store fronts getting tenants, and a lot less skeleton retail spaces. Off the Bone is maybe a block west of 820, you're safe.

We chose this place based on D Magazine's Top 10 List which they said this place was #1. Extremely hard to believe how this place could even place on any list. It was not good at all. Next time I will choose places based on Yelp Ratings and not some Top 10 List. We ordered the 3 meat platter that comes with 2 sides and Texas toast. So we decided to go with ribs, brisket, and sausage. It took about 15 minutes to get our food. None of the meat had any sauce on it so you use the sauce bottle at the table. The sauce was little sweet. The sausage had decent flavor. The brisket and ribs were really, really dry. Funny that this place is called 'Off The Bone' yet the meat didn't fall off the bone. They should change their name to 'Dry As a Bone.' It was so dry, it was difficult to cut the meat off of the bone with a knife. Overall, definitely not worth the drive from Dallas to come here. I am tempted to contact the D magazine writer who made that list and ask what the heck was wrong with his taste buds that day. OR how much they paid for the review. This is not the #1 BBQ place.....I wouldn't even rank this place at all. Go elsewhere!
(1)Brandon F.
Had the chop beef plate with fried okra and corn on the cob. Best part was the corn. The sauce for the beef was bland and the okra was way too salty and came right out of a bag. For $11, there are much better options for BBQ.
(2)Andy R.
Be honest, seriously I want you to stop take a deep breath, find your Cheech and Chong or whatever you guys call it when you sit on the ground all tied up in a knot acting like it's comfortable. Okay clear your mind... take a deep breath... good.... Very good. Now ask yourself this question. THE QUESTION: Have you ever had BBQ so good that when you finished your half slab of Baby Backs that you actually slap the bone your 75 year old mother was gnawing on with her two last good teeth out of her mouth, sending the rib bone to flying halfway across the dining room and then sliding under a deep freezer causing you to jump and slide yourself as if you were trying to take the damn thing out on third base? You then pull it out and pick out any strange hairs and other now deliciously BBQ sauced flavored weirdness and eat like Fred Flintstone eats a chicken leg? If the answer is yes, then you've been to Off The Bone BBQ in Forest Hill, the very Off The Bone BBQ that was voted Best BBQ in Dallas by D Magazine a few months back even though it's not in Dallas, just like the Dallas Cowboys, hell why don't we just trade names with Arlington and save a lot of explanation. If you are on an on going quest for great BBQ ribs then it's worth a trip over on 20 to Off The Bone, these guys and gals know what their doing to a pig. The ribs are thickest I ever seen on a baby back rib, and let me tell you juicy and the brisket is the same. They have a great sauce; I truly believe that is the best ribs that I have yet to find. Closed Monday and Sunday... but don't tell my mom I told her I buy her a slab on Sunday and she's still sitting in the parking lot.
(5)Skyler B.
I have no idea at all why D magazine rated this the number 1 bbq place into the metroplex. This place was very overrated. The food was cold and just didn't taste good at all. I drove an hour away to try this bbq. This was a huge let down. I wouldn't recommend this to any true bbq lover. The service was good, the food just wasn't.
(2)Tracy L.
Off the Bone BBQ is a family business that has no alcohol. Signs indicating this is a non-alcoholic and non-smoking environment are posted everywhere in site. Yet as I'm gnawing on my scrumptious pork rib, two tables over a man puffed on his e-cigarette. Didn't bother me... The only thing that bothered me was eating BBQ without a cold beer. I'm still in Texas out here aren't I? The name off the bone is fitting. As I picked up the first of many ribs on my plate the soft moist pork fell off the bone. No sauce needed here. I truly wish I could offer more good news but the ribs were the only thing worth the drive. My three stars are solely on the pork ribs. Oink!!
(3)Jeanie T.
The very best BBQ and sides around this area! Real Texas BBQ! We bring all our friends here and also get it to go for family gatherings! They also have GREAT desserts, like peach cobbler and 7 Up Pound Cake.
(5)Cee Cee T.
I will not eat at this place the food is not good only thing that was good was the 7 up cake. The first time I went there was a month ago I ordered a bologna sandwich how can you mess up a bologna sandwich then the second time I came there a chopped beef sandwich the beef sandwich and the bologna sandwich tastes like the lighter fluid that you put on a grill if that's what you do but I would never come there again and this is the one that's off of Mansfield in Forest Hill Texas.
(2)Trevor L.
Amazing service and amazing ribs. The Turkey was the best i've ever had and so was the Mac and Cheese. This place is a must.
(5)Arroz C.
Off the Bone's ribs are among the BEST I have ever tasted! I have eaten ribs all over Texas, Louisiana, Memphis, Alabama and yet Off the Bone ranks at the top! Go and eat the ribs with their amazing secret sauce and you will be a very happy camper. Arroz
(3)Nicole L.
Read that this place had the best bbq in FW....negative. it's pretty standard run of the mill bbq at best. It taste good but the best was certainly a stretch
(3)John R.
Sauce was good. ribs were kinda dry for my taste. My daughter had the sausage and said it was too spicy for her and I would have to agree the spice way over powered the smoke/bbq flavor. I am very critcle of bbq because it is my favorite. This is not as good as hard eight in coppell area. The price was really good in my opinion. I also thought the people working were fast and friendly. The seating area reminded me of a fast food place so it was not that great if you are eating in. I would say this place is average. comparible to spring creek only bigger portions and a more fastfoodish atmosphere.
(3)Nique C.
I stopped in today because I was in the Forest Hill area. The ribs were very tender and the hot links were good as well. The cole slaw has pineapples and raisins in it, which was different. However, the Mac and Cheese was on point. I will definitely return.
(4)Scotty P.
I'm giving this place 5 stars cus its some of the best BBQ in this area by far. Yes there are lots of places that are special but it's hard to find GOOD ribs! The burnt ends on the brisket were delicious, the okra and beans were nice and the sauce was delicious. When I told the young lady that it was my first time she brought me a taste of sausage and Mac n cheese. Really??? Yes! Really!! How many places that you know have ever done that? In an era where racial issues are at the top of so many peoples agendas, if you have doubts and wanna see how it should be, go here. Drop any issues you may have at the door, put on a smile, and you and your belly will be loved. The meals are HUGE and I had to take the rest to go along with my perfectly mixed Dr. Pepper from the fountain. These folks know food and people and are a true delight. This will become my family's new BBQ joint of choice! God bless Off the Bone!!
(5)Latoya W.
I've been searching high and low for a decent bbq place.. After multiple disappointments I ran across this place.. I'm a southern girl that loves southern food, so I was a little nervous.. On my 1st visit I ordered a chopped beef sandwich and a rib dinner.. I wanted to get 2 options, just in case I wasn't happy with 1.. The chopped beef was ok, but way too greasy.. Now let's get on their ribs.. The ribs truly live up to the name.. They are meaty, juicy, and tender.. I didn't try the sauce the 1st time, because of the bad experiences I've had at other places.. But the second time I faced my fears and was blown away.. I've visited this place at least 3 times in the past week and was on my way today, but they're closed.. Which sucks, cause I had my entire mouth ready for those ribs.. But trust me.. I'll be back..
(3)Kelly G.
Pretty good BBQ. Not the best I've ever had but certainly good. Read about this place in a magazine so expectations were high. A bright spot in kind of in a run down area, located in a rehabbed Dairy Queen. Locally owned and operated. Super friendly service! Very casual and laid back. I had the ribs and chopped beef. Ribs were excellent. Very smoky flavor and juicy. Chopped beef was very finely chopped, completely saturated in sauce. It was okay, sauce was kind of sweet. The two sauces they have are okay: 1 sweet and one spicy, peppery. If you are in Dallas and feel like taking a side tour, check out off the bone!
(3)Tyronda B.
A friend recommended this place for lunch one day, she was here for work and tried it on a Tuesday evening and bragging about how good and moist their cake was and that the barbecue was good, so I said let's go Wednesday, we went and I had the rib basket, with green beans and pinto beans, all was so good. We went back today I got the chopped beef sandwich and green beans and a slice of cake, its family owned and operated, and everyone is so nice and professional, I love this place, I highly recommend it!!
(5)Lone S.
Off the Bone is OFF THE HOOK GOOD! Seriously, it's become my favorite BBQ place in Arlington. The others are good, but this place is REALLY good AND affordable. I highly recommend their chopped beef sandwich, which is very large and satisfying. The staff treats everyone like family and the care they put into the meat will be obvious the first time you try it. Outstanding.

Wow D magazine is seriously smoking crack if they think this place is number one bbq in DFW. Food was cold, not very tasty. Potato salad tasted like something from grocery store that was on sale. The sauce was good at least, but cold food and horrible sides equals 2 thumbs down. Would not reccomend you find out.

This place was great! Pulling into the lot you can smell the bbq pit and that is always a good sigh. I had the ribs and brisket plate with a large drink. It came with 2 sides and it cost $16. The ribs had a nice smoky flavor and went well with the sauce. The brisket was good and had the smoke ring around the edge, but I enjoyed the ribs more. I had mac and cheese and green beans for the sides and both where just ok. Customer service was on point, and the place was clean. If you like bbq try this place

Went here this past weekend and I liked it. Although it was a pricier than I would have liked it wasn't insane and the food quality was good. Their special sauce really made the meal as I got pork and ribs. The mac and cheese was a liquid, warm cheese which melted down your throat but the coleslaw was like something I have never seen before. It had pineapples and raisins, which is not a normal thing. I like my coleslaw creamy or vinegary, but not really sweet. Although I can understand their innovation, it was not my cup of tea. The meal was a good one and I would go back.

Went for the first time a couple weeks ago. Friendly staff. Lines were hella long bc they close at 7pm. The potato salad was my favorite side. Cakes and brownies are good. Sweet tea was yummy and not overly sugary. We ate inside which was cool-it wasn't dirty or anything. Bbq was tender and moist. Bbq sauce was good and taste homemade. Would have gave it 5 stars but it waa my first time and the mac and cheese was just ok. . Will definitely go back.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CALL AHEAD OR BEAT THE LUNCH CROWD! Great bbq my go to meal is the horseshoe. Which includes a huge loaded backed Potatoe with chopped beef along with 3 ribs. Unfortunately it's so popular that they usually run out of backed potatoes pretty fast. If you're not in a rush this bbq is worth the wait. Oh and take it to go. This place gets pretty crowded

Best BBQ I've had yet in Texas. Same goes for their Mac n Cheese and Peach cobbler. Not sure why this place has anything less than 5 stars. This is the greatest meal I've had in a long while.

One pound of ribs is $12.44 with tax. You get (6) short ribs with a cup of sauce. There is no sauce already on the ribs:(. Also the ribs are fatty, but it is pork. They also include (2) large pieces of untoasted bread. The bread is good, but Smokey's/ Eddie Dean's has buttered toasted buns that you'll want to order more of. The ladies room was out of paper towels, but there is a strong hand drier, but you've gotta twist the knob on the bathroom door to enter & exit so it kinda defeats the purpose:(. While waiting for my pound of ribs the young cashier mentioned to the female owner that the store was hot and stuffy. I said: "Yes, it is hot. There is no air moving in here". The cashier turned around and said to the owner: "She agrees with me". The owner told her to slide the the drive thru window open? Not only is that illegal, but it is not a solution to the problem. Guess what? Smokey's / Eddie Dean's does not treat their workers this way. They provide air conditioning for them.

Had lunch here yesterday and was impressed. May not be the "best" BBQ in the Metroplex, but definitely in the Top 5 of the ones I have tried. The place is now located in Forest Hill, TX on Mansfield highway. I had the Rib & Hot Link combo with fried okra and green beans. The ribs were, as the name implies "off the bone" tender and smoky. The hot links were spicy and delicious and the sauce is good too. The fried okra was cooked to order, hot and crispy. The only disappointment were the green beans. They tasted like they were just from a can and boiled, no flavor to speak of. Nevertheless, the Que is the star here and it is well worth the trip. They were pretty busy on Saturday lunch, so apparently a lot of folks agree. The atmosphere was true Texas BBQ joint, sort of like an old, abandoned DQ. Prices were competitive and portions were huge. My $12.99 Rib & Hot Link came with a fistful of sliced links and 4 large, meaty ribs. Next time I am in the area, I will return to OTB for some more!

Judging by these reviews it seems that some days are better than others here. (But maybe that's true of all barbeque restaurants.) We must have hit them on a very good day--the brisket and ribs were smoky, moist, and tender. Does it matter if the meat was lukewarm instead of hot? The sides were adequate but nothing spectacular. The only issue I personally had is that I don't like celery seeds in my cole slaw. Eddie, the owner, is a super-nice guy, and he made the rounds of the "dining room," checking to see if everyone was enjoying the food. I can't say if this is the best barbeque in the Metroplex, but it's damn good!

Went here a few weeks back because the girlfriend and I were craving some good BBQ. She hopped online and looked for reviews and came up with this place as a good source. It's a little ways from the house but we don't mind the drive if it's worth it. Driving by you wouldn't really think much of this place. It looks like an old DQ inside and out. We got here at about 11:15 and I think they must have just opened but there were already people there. The folks at the counter weren't super nice or anything but they weren't rude either, although the woman that brought us our food seemed pretty up beat. I think the employees play a lot into how an establishment is viewed. We ordered our food and it took 5-10 minutes to get it. I got pork ribs, sausage, green beans, and mac and cheese. and by GF got some brisket and corn. The food was excellent and very tender. The pork ribs were the best I had ever had, extremely tender and full of meat! After the meal I walked around to take a peak at the pit and I saw the owner getting ready to throw some fresh ribs on the grill. He turned around and saw me so I told him it was excellent and he thanked me. This is no fancy joint but if you're just looking for some good BBQ for the family I'd say this is the place to get it! It's not super cheap but you get what you pay for.

Service - 3 Stars Food - 5 Stars Chopped Beef and Ribs - 5 Stars This is advertised as BBQ "Texas Style". I don't know style, but I do know Good. Take it to the next step and you've got, Gol' Durn Great!!! For once, I agree with D magazine. (I can't believe I just said that) Former Dairy Queen, or clone, has been converted into the Holy Grail of B.B.Q. Am I overstating. Am I exaggerating? Am I hyperventilating? Only one way to find out. They have a website. offthebonebbq.com that covers some facts and has pictures. But picture this, a half pound of tasty ribs, four big and meaty with a slab of Texas Toast for $5.69! I tried the ribs with and without sauce. I prefer sauced ribs. They are not dry, they also are not fall off the bone tender. I thing they're perfect. Especially with the sauce that's slightly sweet with a little tang. It's not a hot sauce, but there's fresh jalapeno served on the side that you can add to spice it up. There's a lot of meat on the ribs, but I ended up licking the bones in case I missed any the first go round. My wife had the Chopped Beef Sandwich ($4.69) It was a mouthful of saucy brisket soaking into a thick bun. She, of course, added jalapenos to the sandwich, giving it a little for kick. Did she like it? She practically growled at me when I asked to try a bite. They have daily specials for $5.69 that includes a sandwich drinks and fries. All the usual side dishes. The place is clean and spotless and the service couldn't have been friendlier. To say we enjoyed our lunch is as big an understatement as saying fiscal irresponsibility is the hallmark of our government. I think D magazine got it right this time. Best BBQ in the DFW for me! .

We were in the area doing some resale shopping. I saw this place and had to check it out. Read reviews on the Yelp mobile application and then read some more hype on the Internet about it and decided to try. Ordered a few items and had it carryout. There wasn't anything that impressed us much about it. Sauce was pretty good and for the spend it was a decent value. I would like to know if they offer rib tips, if so I would certainly try them again.

Ok, I made the trip over to Fort Worth to try out what D magazine says is the number one BBQ in the Dallas area. It was a great day to ride the Harley and I was hungry, so let's eat! I had the Chopped Beef sandwich and a Rib sandwich. Tthe Chopped beef wasn't chopped. It's more like pulled beef and mixed with sauce. I prefer the meat to be sliced from the brisket and then chopped, I can put my own sauce on after the fact. As little or as much as I like depending on taste. To me that is a true Chopped Beef sandwich. The biggest problem I with the pull style, it's usually pre-made and sits. The ribs were actually pretty good. Moist and tender with a good smoked flavor. The BBQ sauce is really good, there's a little something different going on there that I really liked. All and all, I wouldn't make a special trip just for the BBQ, but if I'm in the area I will be making the stop again.
(3)Mike F.
The meat is outstanding but the sides and desserts are pretty sub-par. If they could improve those, this would be THE BBQ place to go to in DFW.
(3)Tom C.
Meh - I've read/heard that BBQ in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area doesn't compare with southern TX BBQ but I was really expecting better than this! I'd experienced Spring Creek on previous visits to the DFW area and enjoyed it but on a recent business trip I wanted to try something new so I googled and found a review of the Dallas area top 10 BBQ joints that ranked this #1. I had high hopes pulling up to the place seeing as it was an old converted Dairy Queen - I've found hole in the walls often have the best food, especially when it comes to BBQ. Maybe I just hit it on a bad day, but I was sorely disappointed to say the least. I ordered the 3 meat platter and none of it was close to falling off the bone, and there was barely a hint of smoke flavor. Spring Creek was better. This place has good and bad reviews here so I hope they were just having a bad day.

Great BBQ! I learned of this BBQ joint through Full Custom Gospel BBQ. Daniel V. has excellent taste in BBQ! I frequent his site when I have a hankerin' for BBQ. Great food and WONDERFUL, friendly service! It's definitely worth the drive to South Fort Worth! :) Had #21 - Rib & Sliced Beef Dinner. The rib meat fell off the bone!!
(4)Patrick H.
First visit. Had the ribs, which were good. Not quite falling off the bone, but good. Was expecting more for 14 bucks. Great peach cobbler. Wait wasn't too long. All-in-all, it will become a regular place to give me my BBQ fix.
(3)Prince H.
Great place. Most if not all individually owned BBQ places are closed on both Sunday and Monday. Meshacks is also. Spring Creek is open 7 days a week - get crazy.

I found myself in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for work and it being Texas I was in the mood for barbecue. I spent some time looking for reviews of a place nearby that was good. I found a write up of the 10 best in the DFW area. Top of the list was Off the Bone. Unfortunately the article opened with the sentence "The ugly truth: Dallas does not do barbecue well." I should have known then that I was going to be disappointed. Still I persevered and traveled about an hour away from where I was staying to visit Off the Bone. I got there and upon the suggestion of the article ordered the rib and sliced beef platter. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to come out which is a bit unusual for a barbecue place. Everything looked fantastic. The ribs had a huge smoke ring. Basically they were red all the way thorough with the exception of a tiny sliver of grey in the middle. They were cooked perfectly - not too tough and not too tender. Unfortunately they tasted like ham. Don't get me wrong. I love ham it is just that I was in the mood for barbecue. Under that was a layer of smoked brisket. It too was cooked perfectly but unfortunately fell short on the taste scale. There just wasn't anything special about it. I did show up later in the day and was the last person to leave the restaurant before they closed so that may have had something to do with it. It may be better earlier in the day but unfortunately since I'm not local there is nothing to bring me back here the next time I'm in town for work.

The Prophets of Smoked Meat at Full Custom Gospel BBQ really need to get their act together. The two places I've been to solely based on their recommendations (this place was #1 in D Magazine's Best BBQ in Dallas, an article written by The Prophets) have been marginally impressive, definitely nothing worth driving out of your way for. Much like one of those purist punk kids from the early part of this decade, I think they take too much pride in finding the underground BBQ joint, hype it up like it's the most amazing food to ever grace the state of Texas, and then rip on it as soon as it becomes mainstream (think Sonny Bryan's and the one star they slammed it with). If you want to find some great BBQ stop focusing on how the meat is prepared and start focusing on what it tastes like. And yes, it's okay to factor the sauce into your rating ... it is BBQ after all. Stepping down from my soap box now ... First of all, this place should probably pick a new name. Their ribs are probably the smokiest I've ever, and I mean EVER had and the flavor was spot on, but they did not fall off the bone like I was expecting. In fact, it was a pretty laborious task to pry the meat off the bone let alone the cartiledge. The brisket was a bit of a let down as well, but where they fell short the hot links made up for it. Those sliced hot links were really juicy and flavorful, way better than the actual sausage. Although it's probably not fair to pass judgement on the sausage quite yet since the special house recipe was recently taken to the grave. I'd expect a significant bump in quality once the sausage returns to its homemade status. The sauce was a little runnier than I typically prefer, but also very tasty I will say the service here is top notch. We arrived just as the eating area was closed (7p on a Friday) but they made an exception for our little group. Even though the situation could have been a little awkward, the owners did a great job making us feel right at home as we ate. They are probably the nicest folks you'll ever meet. If Off the Bone were a little closer I'd probably go here once in a while to shake things up. And really, this place deserves 3.5 stars. The only reason I couldn't bump it up was because I liked aspects of everything I ate, but nothing I had was amazing as a whole.
(3)David B.
If you love fall off the bone ribs along with meat that has that fantastic smoky taste to it, this is the place. I was lucky enough to be the last one in line before they were closing their drive thru and I was truly blessed that they let me sneak through even after their official closing time. I had the ribs and brisket and both were phenomenal. Don't miss this hidden gem between Dallas and Forth Worth.
(5)Monica P.
I'm torn between two stars and three. I swear to you, the green beans were from a can. No joke. And the pintos had some sort of slightly sweet taste to them -- not really my speed. The ribs were fine, but not worthy of a call home to my dad. I definitely won't go out of my way for a return visit.
(3)Brenda M.
Will definitely go back for more!! I went with my husband and my mother and ordered a little of everything and everything tasted VERY, very GOOD!!
(4)Byron C.
Stopped in while on business in the DFW area based on others' reviews. A true hole-in-the-wall type place....like what Famous Dave's tries too hard to be. I had the chicken and rib combo plate and it was mighty fine. My corn on the cob was soggy (aren't they all unless you do it at home?) but everything else was really good. Ribs maybe too salty but, hey, it's a BBQ joint. Got away for $18 with tip. I'll stop in again when I'm back in town.

I swear this side of town has turned into BBQ and Soul Food "R" Us. This former Dairy Queen offers many choices in terms of meat, but as hard as they try, the meat here isn't extremely tender or tasty... You know BBQ sauce is good if you burp 5 hours later and continue to taste it. But the meat here can't stand alone without sauce. Though I can't quite give the meat justice, I must say this is one of the most reasonably priced BBQ joints around. I got short ends (smaller, meaty baby backs), baby backs, brisket, chicken, and a hot link for $16. They give you some of the greatest portions for some real down home prices. Great folks too. Sadly, the meat can't hold up to others in Fort Worth though. Off the Bone's brisket was almost disgustingly dry... so that's a minus. The ribs and short ends were greatly meaty, but they weren't the least bit moist or tender. The hot link was beef sausage, having much moistness, so that was a plus. Chicken was really juicy, but oddly mealy... perhaps defrosted that morning. So when eating the meat here, it's tasty, but use some sauce to mask that dryness in the meat.
(2)Greg H.
Without question the best barbecue I've had in north Texas. Stellar well crafted brisket, very fine links, and better pork than what is usually massacred in Texas. Well seasoned sides and phenomenal homemade desserts. The only negative is the 8pm closing time. Amazing that no one has reviewed it even after D magazine named it the best in the metroplex. Exemplary.
(5)Gary B.
Ribs are great, nice smokey flair for sure the sauce takes away from these. The sample I had lived up to the name of the place. Hard to beleive they can get that kind of smokey flavor for only an hour and a 45 in the smoker. The brisket had great flavor. My slice was a little on the tough side. Also a little dry, almost like it was pre-cut too early. I hear the chicken is killer, I will have to come back and try it. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Not the best BBQ in dfw like one magazine would have you think.
(4)Kyle W.
They are big fans of brown sugar in their dry rub and I'm a big fan of that! The joint is an old Dairy Queen so don't expect table cloths, but they didn't get voted one of the best BBQ places in the metroplex as a prank. The pork ribs are serious business and their brisket is way above average. Pretty sure there is crack in the potato salad. They close promptly at 7:30 even though the sign on the door says 8... but I think all the locals know that. They didn't chase us out though and in fact gave us outstanding (and unexpected) service even though we were the last one there... drinking their sauce through a straw.
(5)Malinda Y.
Well seeing this is my first non chain BBQ joint in Texas I will have to say I was pretty impressed. The only bad thing I have to say about this place and the reason it did not get a five star review from me is because they did not have maccaroni and chesse, I just don't get Texas and the sorry excuse for sides that all the BBQ places seem to have I may not be from the south but my family is and mac and cheese is a staple when it comes to soul food so why do so many places here in Texas not have it? Well enough of that I can say that the ribs were off bone for real and the great smoke flavor and the rb they use were delicious, my husband did not care for the brisket he said it was a little dry and the side were ok but all in all we will be going back and i can't wait to try the catfish.
(3)Cliff E.
Great smoky flavor on the ribs, not the best that I have had but very good. Friendly staff, good sauce, (wish they had a spicy sauce as well
(4)Vincenzo K.
I did not know D magazine had showered high praise on this establishment but they can keep their praise as far as I am concerned. I bought the rib dinner and I will have to say that it was the worst I have ever eaten in the DFW area! It tasted like charcoal fluid lighter, yes you read it right. The side of beans had absolutely no taste and the coleslaw was as bland as bland.
(2)BornToBeMil D.
When you read the reviews here consider that there are -- at least -- two kinds of BBQ fans: the kind that see BBQ as being about the sauce and the kind that see BBQ as being about the smoked meat. For the sauce folks, the meat ought to be smoked, but it can be cooked in many other ways so long as it is offered with a tasty sauce which takes the first place of interest. For the smoked meat folks, sauce is usually only a part of the cooking process, not the most important part at that, and the smoking process is everything. A lot of the time people in one group don't even realize that the other kind of 'cue and fans of it even exists. I suspect that a lot of the negative reviews here come from people from the sauce side, whereas those who see this place as an outpost of Heaven (as I do) come from the smoked meat faction, which tends to dominate the foodie side of BBQ fandom. I'm not a brisket fan and won't say anything about that but I love ribs and they don't come any better than these. The smoked meat faction generally doesn't care much about the sides and bread and stuff: they're just there for the meat. Having said that, they do have good sauce (I eat it on the bread, not on the meat) and fried okra. But the ribs ... wow, just wow.
(5)Missy P.
Pretty good BBQ. I stopped here on my way from Houston to Whichita Falls (if you know why I would go to Whichita Falls...you are awesome...lift heavy). Anyway. Good stuff. I had the rib lunch with fried okra. All was very good.
(4)Christine L.
Found this place because it was voted best BBQ in DFW by D Magazine. I love hole in the wall joints. I found the BBQ to be better than Salt Lick in Round Rock, TX. Not sure if its because Salt Lick has been around too long and fame has gotten to its ego, but cmon Salt Lick needs to step it up! Off the Bone was great- the ribs and sausages are amazing. The staff is super friendly, the prices are very reasonable. I shared a 3 meat dinner with my bf for $15.99. Potato salad is good. Avoid the fried okra hush puppies- doesn't do okra justice. I do love meat and BBQ, but could use some fresh veggies as well :)
(4)Dylan P.
Given D Magazine's #1 honor last year as the best BBQ joint in DFW, I had high expectations for Off the Bone upon my visit. There is nothing bad or great about this place. The perfect word is mundane. Meat is average, the sauce is good, and the sides were marginal. Considering all of the other BBQ options around the Metroplex, Off the Bone would make my top 20. I'm still trying to find a place that can top Dallas' Baby Back Shak. This place will need to completely retool it's BBQ to have a shot at being the real #1 BBQ joint in DFW.
(3)Ken f.
First off when the girlfriend finds out I cam here without her I will be sleeping with the dogs. I did get some catfish " served only on Fridays," brisket an ssg.. Ok the people or very nice an great service. The catfish was a thumbs up, but the BBQ was ok on a good day. I did belch it for about 8 hrs. They do smoke there meats themselves, but it taste like they added liquid smoke. Sorry D magazine you missed this one, but no surprise they put cousin's BBQ on the list.
(2)Michael R.
Well I went here because D magazine says its the best in the DFW area. I however don't agree. It was okay but all the meats I ate were dry and the sauce on my table was flat in my opinion. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but it didn't have a lot of flavor.
(3)Steve N.
I have to say I was a little disappointed in this place I had very high expectations after it was named best BBQ joint in DFW by D Magazine/ Full Custom Gospel BBQ. I had the Ribs, Brisket and Sausage with beans and slaw. The ribs and brisket were lukewarm and somewhat tough even though it was right in the middle of the lunch rush. The sausage was pretty good and the sides were just so so. Their was a good amount of smoke flavor on the meats, but there is more to good BBQ than smoke flavor. Oh well.
(2)John K.
Excellent - I know my BBQ and this is a very unpretentious place that focuses on good value and good BBQ. Part of what makes this place great is the atmosphere - I had to pinch myself to remind myself that I was in the metroplex. Anyway, I had the ribs and chicken dinner. Ribs were nearly perfect - great flavor, cooked just right. Chicken was good too - maybe a little too smokey for some but I liked it. Cole slaw appeared fresh, but beans were not spectacular. Will I be back? you bet.
